Iva Kalita

M.A., SLET Qualified

Iva Kalita is an assistant professor of sociology at Pragjyotishpur University. She has a multidisciplinary approach to sociology, combining regional and thematic areas, likely integrating the socio-cultural dynamics of North-East India with broader sociological theories. She is engaged in research that addresses both theoretical and practical aspects of sociology, aiming to bring attention to under-researched areas and marginalized communities. She is a graduate in Economics and postgraduate in Sociology from Cotton University. She secured a First-class 1st position in post graduation and was a Gold Medallist in the 2017-2019 batch of Cotton University. She qualified SLET in the year 2022. She was awarded ‘The Harinath Sharma Doloi Memorial Award’ for securing the District's highest marks (Nalbari) in Sanskrit in the HSLC Examination in 2012 and was felicitated by AASU, Nalbari district for securing State highest marks in HS Final Examination in Logic & Philosophy in 2014. She is involved in different social activities such as Flood Relief Camp, Food and Clothes distribution initiatives. She was Group Leader in Namami Brahmaputra Festival in 2017. Iva Kalita's research interests encompass a broad range of topics, including Sociology of Gender, Sociology of Religion, Tribal Studies, Environmental Sociology, North-East Studies, and Social and New Social Movements. She is also a life member of Indian Sociological Society (ISS).

Awards and Fellowships:

She secured a First-class 1st position in post graduation and was a Gold Medalist in the 2017-2019 batch of Cotton University.

She was awarded for securing State highest marks in HS Final Examination in Logic & Philosophy in 2014 by AASU, Nalbari District.

She has been awarded ‘Harinath Sharma Doloi Memorial Award’ for securing District highest marks (Nalbari) in Sanskrit in HSLC Examination in 2012 .

SEMINAR/WORKSHOP/CONFERENCES/FDPS ATTENDED:

Participated at the two day Idea Workshop on “NEP 2020 and Revisiting Sociology: Text, Context, Pedagogy” which was held on 19th-20th January, 2024 at G.B. Pant Social Science Institute, Prayagraj. The workshop was organized by Vidya Bharti Uchcha Shiksha Sansthan in collaboration with Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR) and G.B. Pant Social Science Institute.

She participated in a National Symposium on Jagadguru Shri Shankaracharya on 27th March 2024 under the sponsorship of Bharatiya Bhasa Samiti.

She has participated in Four days Faculty Development Programme conducted by IIM Shillong from 8th May to 11th May, 2024.

Participated at a National Seminar on "Contemporary Anthropology and North East India" organized by 48th Annual Conference Indian Anthropological Association in collaboration with Department of Anthropology, Cotton University from 1st-3rd November, 2018.
